From November 28th to December 1st, Huang Chunhua, founder and chairman of Pasaca Capital Inc., founder of Innova Medical Group Inc., and an alumnus of Wuhan University, along with Mrs. Tong Xiaohuan, Vice Chairman of the Charles Huang Foundation, CEO Lina Tullberg, and President Mao Weining, were invited to attend the series of events celebrating the 130th anniversary of Wuhan University.
On November 30, 2021, on the occasion of the 128th anniversary celebration of Wuhan University, Dr. Huang Chunhua, an alumnus of the School of Economics and Management from the grade of 1982, donated $40 million to his alma mater through his private charitable foundation, the Charles Huang Foundation. Prior to attending the event, the Charles Huang Foundation disbursed the second installment of $10 million, equivalent to RMB 72.13 million, as a special gift for the university's 130th anniversary celebration. Huang Taiyan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Wuhan University, expressed sincere gratitude and profound respect to alumnus Huang Chunhua on behalf of the university.
On the morning of November 28th, the Wuhan University Anniversary Donation Signing Ceremony and Education Contribution Award Presentation Ceremony were held in the Lecture Hall of the New Library. The university awarded alumnus Huang Chunhua with the "Outstanding Education Contribution Award" and presented him with a medal.
On November 28th, Huang Chunhua also attended the unveiling ceremony of the Outstanding Alumni Wall of the School of Economics and Management. Alongside him were Mrs. Tong Xiaohuan, Vice Chairman of the Charles Huang Foundation, CEO Lina Tullberg, President Mao Weining, and other members of the foundation. Also present were Tian Yuan, Chairman of Mevion Medical Group and one of the Outstanding Alumni of Wuhan University in the third session, Professor Gan Biqun, former Dean of the School of Management, Professor Song Min, Dean of the Central China Development Research Institute of Wuhan University and former Dean of the School of Economics and Management, Jiang Xingli, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Economics and Management, Nie Jun, Dean of the School, Li Hao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Huang Minxue, and Liu Linqing, Vice Dean of the School, and more than 40 alumni classmates from the grade of 1982 of the Department of Economics and Management, all witnessed the unveiling ceremony of the Outstanding Alumni Wall of the School.
Alumnus Huang Chunhua expressed that being honored as one of the Outstanding Alumni of Wuhan University in the tenth session is a tremendous honor and a great motivation for him. He hopes to continue contributing to charitable endeavors, applying the principles of marketing and political economics practically, serving his alma mater, and giving back to society.
Following that, Huang Chunhua delivered a special lecture titled "The Importance of Ideas - Reflections on Life's Journey" to the students of the School of Economics and Management as part of the "Entrepreneurship Forum" celebration for the university's anniversary. Huang began by reflecting on his own entrepreneurial journey, emphasizing the significance of ideas. He stressed that a successful entrepreneur needs to have innovative and unique ideas, as well as the determination to put these ideas into practice. With keen insight and unwavering belief, he successfully led Pasaca Capital Inc. and Innova Medical Group Inc. to rapid growth in their respective fields during the early stages of entrepreneurship. He provided a detailed overview of the development and achievements of Innova Medical Group, as well as sharing his successful experiences in finance, healthcare, and other sectors.
The inaugural Pasaca Outstanding Academic Achievement Award ceremony for the year 2022 was also held at the conference. Alumnus Huang Chunhua presented honorary trophies to the five representatives of the award-winning teachers: Jian Xinhua, Li Qingyuan, Yang Mian, Lin Wanfa, and You Shibing. Dr. Shi Yue and Dr. Lv Meng, representing young scholars sponsored by the Pasaca Education Fund, as well as 17 students who received scholarships from the Pasaca Education Fund and representatives from Wuhan University's Self-Reliance Entrepreneurship Class, took the stage to take commemorative photos with alumnus Huang Chunhua and the foundation's management team.
On the afternoon of November 28th, Dr. Huang Chunhua and his delegation visited the Wuhan University Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. Accompanied by Director Meng Xiaoliang and Deputy Director Zhou Lichao, they toured the "Innovation, Creation, Entrepreneurship" educational exhibition. Following this, they visited laboratories within the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, including those dedicated to robotics, virtual simulation, and intelligent manufacturing.
After concluding the visit, Alumnus Huang Chunhua and his delegation engaged in a discussion with representatives of the Innova Innovation Achievement Award winners and student teams at the Wuhan University Maker Space (Entrepreneurship Salon of Wuhan University Science and Technology Park). Meng Xiaoliang warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude to Alumnus Huang Chunhua for his strong support to the alma mater over the years.
Zhu Yuhan, a student who received the special award for Innova Innovation Achievement, presented their achievements on-site. In the subsequent free exchange session, representatives from entrepreneurial teams such as Xianzhi Playing Studio, Paiyou Programming Puzzle Team, and Chunxuan Public Relations Company delivered speeches one after another.
After listening to the presentations from the student teams, Alumnus Huang Chunhua shared his experiences in the investment field over the past years with the students present. He also shared his unique perspectives on product innovation and encouraged young people to dare to innovate and create products that are beneficial to society.
After the discussion session concluded, Alumnus Huang Chunhua and his delegation took a group photo with the students on the outdoor steps of the Maker Space to commemorate the occasion.
On the morning of November 30th, the Charles Huang Foundation donation project symposium was held in Room 101 of Building A at the Student Engineering Training and Innovation Practice Center of Wuhan University. President Mao Weining of the Charles Huang Foundation attended the event. The symposium was presided over by Ms. Ye Linna, Deputy Director of the Alumni Affairs and Development Liaison Office of Wuhan University, and Deputy Secretary-General of the Education Development Foundation, Wuhan University.
Project leaders from various relevant functional departments and colleges, including the School of Economics and Management, the International Exchange Department, the Human Resources Department, the Student Affairs Office, the Undergraduate School, the Graduate School, the Logistics Support Department, and the Student Engineering Training and Innovation Practice Center, reported on the progress and achievements of the Charles Huang Foundation's donation projects over the past two years. They also highlighted implementation challenges and provided suggestions for improvement based on actual circumstances.
On behalf of Alumnus Huang Chunhua and the Charles Huang Foundation, Mao Weining expressed gratitude to the relevant functional departments and colleges of the university for their diligent efforts in ensuring the smooth progress of each project. He stated that the symposium was substantive and fruitful, contributing significantly to mutual understanding and maximizing the effectiveness of the donation funds. He expressed the hope for continued close communication and resource sharing between the foundation and the various departments and colleges of the university in the future, aiming to further improve the funding mechanism and support the development of the university's educational endeavors.
On the same afternoon, Alumnus Mao Weining made a special visit to the Wuhan University Alumni House, where he had in-depth discussions and exchanges with Ye Linna, Deputy Secretary-General of the Education Development Foundation, Wuhan University, and others.
Ye Linna introduced Mao Weining to the personnel composition and working mechanism of the Education Development Foundation, Wuhan University. She expressed that the foundation will continue to value the generous contributions of donors, ensuring the proper use of each donation and the successful execution of every donated project.
Alumnus Mao Weining reviewed the original intention behind the donations made by the Charles Huang Foundation to Wuhan University and expressed satisfaction with the current progress of the foundation's projects. At the same time, he eagerly anticipated closer cooperation between the two foundations in the future, aiming to further enhance the role played by the Charles Huang Foundation in promoting the high-quality development of Wuhan University.
On December 1st, Alumnus Mao Weining, President of the Charles Huang Foundation, visited and exchanged ideas at the Second Clinical Hospital/ Zhongnan Hospital, Wuhan University. Vice President Li Zhiqiang warmly welcomed President Mao Weining on behalf of the hospital.
Li Zhiqiang expressed that after nearly 70 years of accumulation, exploration, and innovative development, the hospital is entering a new stage of accelerated high-quality development. He hoped that Alumnus Mao Weining and the Charles Huang Foundation would continue to care for and support the development of their alma mater and the national health industry.
Mao Weining fondly recalled his early years, including being born in the hospital and his experiences studying and living at his alma mater. He mentioned that the Charles Huang Foundation has been dedicated to improving community healthcare services and enhancing the medical service environment. The foundation has also made donations to several international hospitals, including a $7.5 million donation to the University of Southern California (USC) Arcadia Hospital in the United States to establish a new comprehensive surgical center for cardiac, vascular, endovascular, neurological, and spinal surgeries. Accompanied by President Li, he particularly visited the neurosurgery composite operating room and expressed admiration and pride for its advanced technology and equipment, comprehensive facilities, and the proactive awareness of Zhongnan Hospital in the development and promotion of composite surgery, as well as the achievements in promoting composite surgical techniques in neurosurgery and other fields. He quoted, "Fallen leaves are not without feeling; they become spring mud to protect flowers". He hoped that through this exchange, both sides could strengthen their future cooperation.
