Over the passage of 130 years, the school has nurtured countless students, gathering the brilliance and wisdom of generations of outstanding talents. They excel in various fields, weathering storms and composing magnificent chapters of life. They remember their roots and show gratitude to their mentors, giving back to their alma mater. They are the practitioners and inheritors of Wuhan University's spirit and motto. On March 23rd, in the solemn atmosphere in the Old Library, Wuhan University held the grand ceremony to commend its Outstanding Alumni in the tenth session.
Chen Jun, Chen Xiaohong, Guo Renzhong, Huang Chunhua, Liu Jincheng, Luo Qiuping, Xu Binghe, Zhang Haipeng, Zhang Yue, and other alumni (listed in alphabetical order by surname) were honored to be elected as the Outstanding Alumni of Wuhan University in the tenth session. School leaders Huang Taiyan, Zhang Pingwen, Zhou Yezhong, Zhao Xuemei, Shen Zhuanghai, Li Ziyuan, Song Baoliang, and Vice President Xu Dongxing attended the event. Previous Outstanding Alumni such as Chen Dongsheng, Yan Zhi, Zhu Zhengfu, Zeng Wentao, and Jian Hong, as well as alumni representatives from all over the country, along with representatives from various functional departments and faculties of the university, and student representatives, jointly witnessed the award ceremony.
Vice President Li Ziyuan announced the decision to honor the Outstanding Alumni in the tenth session, while the Party Secretary of Wuhan University Huang Taiyan and President Zhang Pingwen presented the awards. During the award ceremony, each outstanding alumnus was recognized through individual presentations highlighting their achievements and tailored award speeches, showcasing their remarkable accomplishments and inspiring life stories. Each elected alumnus took the stage to deliver their award-winning speech.
Alumnus Chen Jun expressed that personal growth is inseparable from the nurturing of the alma mater, as well as the visionary guidance and broad-mindedness of the teachers. It is precisely because of remembering the teachings of the teachers to "stand tall, go global, and mentor the next generation" that today's achievements are possible. He stated that receiving the honor of "Outstanding Alumni" marks a new beginning, and in the future, he will work even harder to contribute to supporting the high-quality development of the country's digitalization efforts. Additionally, he pledged to contribute to the research efforts of his alma mater to the best of his ability.
"In a person's journey, no matter how far they go, they must not abandon their parents and family; no matter how successful their career, the source of their strength lies in their teachers and students. Therefore, one must not forget their parents and family, which is filial piety; one must not forget their alma mater and teachers, which is also filial piety." These were the heartfelt words of Alumnus Guo Renzhong, filled with gratitude towards his alma mater.
Alumnus Xu Binghe expressed his excitement, saying, "I am grateful to my alma mater for providing a broad platform, to the teachers for their diligent cultivation, and to my fellow students for their mutual encouragement and exchange of experiences. The alumni of Wuhan University have an especially deep and strong affection for our alma mater. In the future, I hope to repay my alma mater with even more remarkable achievements in the field of medicine."
Alumnus Zhang Yue reminisced about his time as a student, immersed in the ivory tower of the campus, diligently studying and laying the foundation for every pursuit in his later life. He imparted his wisdom to the younger students, saying, "Young students face formidable challenges. I hope you will forge ahead bravely and resolutely, dare to innovate in the new era, and strive to become exemplary youth of the new era, with ideals, beliefs, aspirations, and responsibilities."
Alumnus Luo Qiuping divided his growth experience into three stages. "The first stage was during my time studying at Wuhan University, where I laid the foundation for my development and formed my own worldview and methodology. The second stage was during the process of founding my own business, during which I received a lot of attention and help from my alma mater and alumni, enabling me to grow smoothly. In the third stage, starting from today, I hope to remember this honor and responsibility, and run my business even better, contributing to society and giving back to my alma mater."
Alumnus Huang Chunhua reflected on his achievements, emphasizing the importance of a global perspective and company strategy. He traced back the roots of his global perspective to his student life at Wuhan University, saying, "In 1982, when I finished the college entrance examination, Wuhan University was my only choice, and I even refused to be assigned elsewhere. I am grateful that Wuhan University admitted me. For the past 40 years, I have always been proud of Wuhan University, and I hope my future achievements will also make Wuhan University proud of me."
Alumnus Liu Jincheng spoke passionately, saying, "I consider this award the greatest honor of my life. Because, Wuhan University, and the Cherry Blossom Avenue are filled with love and affection. The greatest achievement in life lies in growth guided by love and affection. It is the love and affection between teachers and students, among classmates, and among alumni that propels us forward in life."
Alumni Zhang Haipeng and Chen Xiaohong were unable to attend the award ceremony in person due to work commitments. They conveyed their thoughts, gratitude, and blessings to their alma mater via video.
Alumnus Zhang Haipeng fondly reminisced, "It has been 58 years since I left Wuhan University. Now, being awarded the honor of Outstanding Alumni by Wuhan University, it reminds me of my student days and how the older generation of scholars taught me knowledge and ideology. Later, I became a warrior in the field of Chinese history, a Marxist, and a communist, all of which were rooted in my time at Wuhan University."
"When I learned that I had been honored as an Outstanding Alumnus, many wonderful memories flooded my mind. It's currently the season when cherry blossoms bloom on the Wuhan University campus, and my former dormitory was located on the Cherry Blossom Avenue. During my four years of undergraduate study, I received a lot of support and help from my teachers and classmates, and learned many useful knowledge and skills. These experiences played a significant role later on, helping me overcome numerous challenges in my academic career and achieve some success in the academic field." Alumnus Chen Xiaohong fondly remembers her student life and expresses gratitude to her alma mater.
Chen Dongsheng, the executive president of the Alumni Association and a member of the Outstanding Alumni in the third session of Wuhan University, delivered a speech at the conference, congratulating the newly elected Outstanding Alumni. He stated, "Being recognized as an Outstanding Alumnus is the most prestigious honor for alumni of Wuhan University. Wuhan University has nurtured our aspirations to contribute to our country and society. We look forward to continuing to make outstanding contributions to society and our alma mater alongside all Outstanding Alumni in various fields."
Huang Taiyan extended heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected Outstanding Alumni. He pointed out that "Outstanding Alumni" is the highest honor bestowed upon alumni by the university. The Outstanding Alumni elected in previous sessions serve as the image and calling card of the university. They strive tirelessly for human progress and the development of the nation and society, and have inscribed a colorful chapter in the history of Wuhan University with their outstanding achievements. Huang Taiyan shared three insights: First, Outstanding Alumni are an important source of the university's reputation. They represent the pinnacle of alumni achievements, garnering acclaim both domestically and internationally, bringing great honor to the alma mater and filling it with pride. Second, Outstanding Alumni are a powerful driving force behind the university's development. They have made significant contributions to the country and society, consistently show concern for the construction and development of the alma mater, and provide generous support and love for the university, which is admirable. Third, Outstanding Alumni are vivid carriers of the university's spirit. Their stories of perseverance, innovative character, and pursuit of excellence vividly embody the spirit of the university motto, setting an excellent example for students and faculty alike. He hoped that all Wuhan University students would take Outstanding Alumni as role models and make new and greater contributions to the country's development and social progress.

He conducts rigorous scholarship, enlightening the nation's vision; delves deep into research, showcasing China's experiences to the world. Bringing together industry elites, he contributes wisdom to global sustainable development; his research knows no bounds, exploring the forefront of natural resource management.
Award Citation for Guo Renzhong: In this era of rapid change, he stands firm in his commitment to the nation; with a global perspective, he contributes to the well-being of the people. Pioneering the informatization of land and resource management, he lays the foundation for smart city development. Leveraging digital information to drive new infrastructure, he constructs a new cityscape on the internet. Leading in 3D cadastral research internationally, he has twice been honored with the National Science and Technology Progress Award. His geographic information services benefit the people, making cities "smarter" with new technologies!

Devoted to early diagnosis of breast cancer, he delves into the research and development of anti-tumor drugs. Wrestling with the Grim Reaper, he brings about a fundamental transformation in the treatment of breast cancer in our country; spreading good tales of medicine, he presents a leading answer for human life and health. Award citation for Zhang Haipeng: Coincidentally, he found himself deeply involved in historical research, devoting considerable effort to exploring classics and history and tirelessly writing for many years. Remaining committed to the materialist interpretation of history, his scholarly pursuits were focused on uncovering historical truths and developing the "three major systems," which encapsulated the significant accomplishments of modern Chinese history. Balancing both governance and academic pursuits, he shouldered the responsibilities of both roles, engaging in scholarly discussions on history and politics while maintaining a global perspective. Throughout his life, he pursued scholarly endeavors for the betterment of society and truth, striving to impart the correct historical understanding to nurture future generations of scholars.
